Roulette
Roulette is probably the most well known casino game. The typical "American" casino roulette wheel is divided into 38 slots which are numbered 1 to 36 plus 0 and 00. Even numbers on the roulette wheel are red and odd numbers black. 0 and 00 are green. Some casinos offer the "European Roulette Wheel" - this roulette wheel has only 37 slots - there is no 00.
To win at the casino playing roulette the player needs to predict where the roulette ball will land after each spin of the roulette wheel. After you place your bets, the casino dealer spins a small white ball in the opposite direction of the turning roulette wheel. When the ball comes to rest in one of the slots, the casino dealer will call out the winning number and settle all bets.
Roulette table layout and Payout
The numbers on the casino roulette wheel are displayed in a regular form on the table which is almost identical in every casino around the world. Here are some of the casino bets that can be placed on the roulette wheel.
- Place a straight bet - bet on a single number pays 35:1 (A )
- Place a split bet - bet on 2 adjacent numbers pays 17:1 (B )
- Place a Street bet - bet on 3 numbers on a horizontal line pays 11:1 (C)
- Corner bet - bet on a block of 4 numbers pays 8:1 (D)
- First Five - bet on first five numbers pays 6:1 (E)
- Line bet - bet on 6 numbers in 2 adjacent rows pays 5:1 (F)
- Column bet - bet on 1 of 3 vertical columns pays 2:1 (G)
- Dozen bet - bet on 12 numbers, low (1-12), middle (13-24) or high (25-36) pays 2:1 (H)
- Split Columns - bet on 24 numbers pays 1:2 - only allowed in some casinos (J)
- Split dozens - bet on numbers pays 1:2 -only allowed in some casinos (K)
- Even bet - bet on even or odd, red or black, low (1-18) or high (19-36) pays 1:1
When playing roulette you can place as many bets as you like on a
single spin of the roulette wheel up to the table maximum. Some
casinos use a rule called en prison. When a zero or double zero
hits, the roulette player loses half the bet, or can let the bet remain
in play, with the results to be determined on the next spin.
This casino rule only applies to even money bets.
