• Each poker player is dealt 2 pocket cards face down and then 5 community cards are dealt face up, over the course of 3 betting rounds.

• The upshot is that it is easier to predict what poker hands your opponents could be holding, which, on the one hand, is an advantage, but also means that it can be harder to bluff in Texas Hold'em.

Playing Rules Of Texas Hold'em Poker:

• The two poker players immediately to the left of the Dealer button begin by posting the blind bets.
• Two pocket cards are dealt to each poker player, face-down.
• First round of betting begins with the option to fold, bet, or raise.
• Only one bet, and three raises per player are allowed on the first round.
• Poker players cannot "check" in the first round, as Blinds are bets, not antes.
• Three communal cards ( the flop) are dealt face-up in the centre table. All communal cards are active for poker players and can be used in combination with each player's two starting cards.
• Second round of betting - options are to check, fold, bet, or raise.
• Fourth communal card (the "Turn") is dealt face-up.
• Third round of betting - options are to check, fold, bet, or raise.
• If at this stage there are still at least two vying players, the fifth and final communal card (the "River") is dealt face-up.
• Final round of betting follows.
• The Showdown! All remaining poker players then create the best five-card hand possible.
• You can use both pocket cards and three communal cards or one pocket card and four communal cards or all five communal cards.
• The best hand wins the pot.  If two or more Poker Players have the same winning hand, the pot is split equally between them.

Texas Hold'em Terminology:

Community Cards - Cards dealt face-up in the middle of the table and their rankings are shared by all the poker players.

Pocket Cards - Cards dealt face down.

Hole Cards - The two cards that are dealt face-down to each poker player (also called "pocket" cards)

Blind Bet  - A "Blind Bet" is a forced bet that is taken before the cards are dealt - made instead of an Ante. It is posted by the two poker players to the left of the Dealer. A "Small Blind" is placed by the Player to the Dealer's left. The "Big Blind" is placed by the Player left of the Small Blind.

River - The fifth and final, communal card dealt.

Puck/buck/button - A moving white disc disc which indicates the Poker Dealer, and moves in a clockwise direction.  The dealer button moves clockwise around the table each hand.  The poker player to the left of the button has to post a "small blind" - a required bet that is 1/2 the lower limit bet.  The poker player to the left of this person has to post a "big blind" - a required bet which is equal to the lower limit bet.
